Child-Friendly

Eye Care

Your children’s eyesight constantly changes as they grow, more rapidly than at any other time in their lives — which makes pediatric eye exams essential to building a strong foundation for a lifetime of healthy eyes. You should be confident in your child’s eye care: choose Vision Specialists’ family-friendly team for a thorough eye exam that’s as easy as it is enjoyable.

What is a

Pediatric Eye Exam?

These age-specific eye exams ensure your children’s vision is developing properly, and that there’s no evidence of eye disease. Our staff strives to make your child’s exam engaging and comfortable — that’s why in addition to screening for conditions more common in children, we use modern technology and creative methods like “Vision Pals” to keep your children happy the whole way through.

Why Do Children

Need Eye Exams?

Children’s eyes develop quickly, so it’s important to catch eye health issues as early as possible. Pediatric eye exams test for age-specific conditions, including strabismus (crossed eyes), amblyopia (lazy eye), and vision impairments like myopia (nearsightedness). If your children frequently use digital devices like computers and tablets, pediatric eye exams are important to help prevent digital eye strain.

The Vision Specialists

Difference

It’s important to us that our pediatric exams are just as valuable to our child patients as they are to our pediatric optometrists — Our team uses child-friendly technology and animated "Vision Pals" that greet your children and walk them through the exam process to put them at ease.

When Should I
Bring My Child In?

Following the standards of care, we recommend your child's first visit is between six months and one year of age. After that, we recommend bringing your child in at three years old, then at least annually once they start school. We may recommend more frequent visits if they require specialty eyewear or there are concerns about vision health issues.
