Dr. Kyle Cheatham
Dr. Kyle Cheatham is an experienced optometrist at Vision Specialists in 156th & West Maple and Council Bluffs. While in Optometry school, he created KMK Educational Services, which has been the #1 educational training company in Optometry for over 20 years. KMK trains 98% of new doctors (1500+) each year, which has afforded Dr. Cheatham a unique opportunity to stay on the cutting edge of best practices for his patients. He is well respected in his field for being a leader in Optometry education.
He loves providing comprehensive eye care with the latest technology to patients of all ages. Dr. Cheatham especially enjoys challenging cases and patients who are concerned about their eyes. He loves reducing stress in their lives by figuring out the problem and explaining the next steps in clear and simple ways for the patient to understand.
Experience
Dr. Cheatham graduated from Centre College with a degree in Biology before receiving his doctorate from the Indiana University College of Optometry. After completing his residency in ocular disease at the Kansas City VA Medical Center, Dr. Cheatham joined Heartland Eye Consultants in Omaha, where he specialized in ocular disease, seeing only referrals from other doctors for second opinions on disease cases. After eight years at Heartland, he recognized the need for patients who sought the expertise of a specialty doctor in a routine setting. He founded Vision Specialists to fulfill this vision. He can now see patients of all ages and perform routine eye exams, including glasses and contact lens fittings, while also being available for patients with complex problems who require specialist care.
Dr. Cheatham has a passion for education and making complex topics easy to understand for his patients and fellow doctors. He has taught continuing education to practicing optometrists in North America and beyond and is the lead author of a textbook, KMK Applied Basic Science Review, that is among the top-selling textbooks in Optometry each year.

Originally from a small town in Madison, Indiana, Dr. Cheatham grew up in a family where both parents were teachers. Their love for simplifying everything rubbed off on Kyle, whose best attribute as a doctor is educating patients in clear and simple-to-understand ways. He loves spending time with his wife, Melissa, and their three children, Cole, Grayson, and Ella. In their free time, you can catch them at Life. Church, at their kids' sporting events, and checking out their favorite spots around the city.
